Q:
How do I get to Fort Riley from Junction City?
A:
You can access Fort Riley in three ways. If
you have Department of Defense decals on your
vehicle you may enter through any of the post's
access control points.
The access point, or gate, on the east end of
Grant Avenue is limited to vehicles with DoD
decals and is only open 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
Trooper Gate, which is located at the north
end of Washington Street, and Henry Gate, off
of I-70 exit 301, are open 24 hours a day. Day
passes are issued at both gates.
*** Drivers' must have a current driver's license,
proof of current insurance and vehicle registration
to get a day pass. All passengers must have
photo ID and be wearing a seat belt.
Q:
Is hunting allowed on post?
A:
Yes, Fort Riley has many hunting and outdoor
opportunities. Weapons must be registered with
the post. Contact the Outdoor Recreation office
at 785-239-2363.
Q:
Can we tour Fort Riley?
A:
Yes, the post has several tour options available.
You may contact either the Public Affairs Office,
785-239-2022, or the U.S. Cavalry Museum, 785-239-2737,
for more information.
Q:
If a solider brought back a car from Germany
that was purchased within the last 3 months (tax
free) and then comes to register that car in Kansas,
will they be subject to state sales tax?
A:
If they have documentation already in their
name (i.e. a title or license plate) they will
not be subject to a state sales tax when returning
to Kansas.
Q:
Will an individual need to get a Kansas drivers
license before obtaining a Kansas license plate?
A:
According to the Division of Motor Vehicles
they will not.
Q:
Are active duty soldiers subject to state property
tax on automobiles?
A:
Yes. The only exception is if they are a Kansas
resident and stationed outside of Kansas and
the vehicle is also out of the state of Kansas.
Then an enlisted solider can register their
car without paying the personal property tax.
Q:
Military personnel have a 30 day temporary tag
for the automobiles when shipped in from overseas,.
What will the state do if a person's 30 day tag
has expired before registering their car in Kansas?
Is there any kind of grace period?
A
: No one is allow to drive an automobile on
an expired permanent or temporary tag.
